During a meeting held on December 9, 2011 Yevhen Sulima, the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine informed Oleksandr Motsyk, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States of America how negotiations with representatives from the US Department of State were progressing.
As earlier reported, Mr. Sulima met with Adam Erly, Director of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for the US State Department to start developing a plan of cooperation between the USA and Ukraine in the educational sphere. They acknowledged that such cooperation is a priority for US-Ukrainian relations. They plan on developing an agreement that would allow each country to recognize the other’s diplomas and academic degrees from establishments of higher education, and to create a joint commission that would identify the areas of study and choose Ukrainian undergraduate and post-graduate applicants to study and intern in leading US universities through the Fulbright program and respective Ukrainian Government programs.
Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States of America noted that signing such an agreement between Ukraine and America would allow both countries to combine their efforts in the spheres of education and science. He went on to assure the parties that the Ukrainian Embassy would facilitate finalizing this agreement.
