Russian “School Children” Expelled from MIPT

On Tuesday, June 28th, the administration of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) expelled students who took the Russian standardized test in mathematics for graduating secondary school seniors in northeastern Moscow. The students themselves asked to be expelled after the fiasco. Yuriy Samars’kyy, Academic Vice Chancellor stated that they will be eligible to re-enroll “after some time.” read more

Likarchuk Calls the Inclusion of Secondary Grade Point Averages a Threat to Admissions

The main threat to this year’s admission campaign is the absence of a singular criterion by which to select applicants to HEIs and the unfair conditions created for applicants. The grade point averages of applicants from rural areas cannot be compared to those who studied in city schools. Legitimate Proposals?

An expert group from the Ministry of Education, with input from student organizations, has drafted a new version of the Law of Ukraine: On Higher Education, after they spent two months revising it. Currently, student reaction is divided. Some feel that this version will be maximally effective, others point out that the Ministry has failed to fulfill its promises. The Supporters’ Point of View Students who support the proposed law invited journalists to a quiet press room at an information agency. They detailed the long but productive several months they spent to create this well written and thought out bill.  read more

It is not Mandatory to Include Scores from HEI Exams—Student Union

Universities will be able to add the HEI university exam score to the admission score. Anatoliy Ihnatovych, President of the National Student’s Union (NSU) informed a correspondent from IA World of Education that this was announced on May 17th during a press conference. According to the President of the NSU, HEI chancellors proposed adding the score obtained on HEI administered entrance exams to the applicant’s admission score during a public discussion of the legislation On Higher Education.  read more

Despite government assurances that they are committed to fighting corruption and bribery in Ukraine, nothing has changed. Experts believe that this is even more dangerous for the state. The problem of corruption in Ukraine was discussed at a press conference called: Is Ukraine tending towards Kleptocracy or already living in it?
